Swavesey and District History Society – Report on May meeting
David Oates from Impington spoke on High Treason and a Mediaeval Royal Insult in Orwell Church Chancel Roof. A teacher for most of his life, David has been interested in heraldry since his schooldays. There are 39 coats of arms on the chancel ceiling which are a remarkable and unique survival from the fourteenth century, commemorating the rise and fall of Sir Simon Birley, an important figure during the troubled reign of the young King Richard II. Over Players – Murder on the Nile
Rehearsals are well underway for our production of Murder on the Nile. Show dates are Thursday 28th May – Saturday 30th May 2026 starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at overplayers.uk at a price of only £13 which includes a free programme where you will be introduced to the cast, three of whom are new members. Please do come and support your local amateur dramatic company.

Over Memory Cafe Update
Thank you all for a truly wonderful and entertaining morning at our St.George’s Day Café. KJ & The Katt made it a special morning, so many great comments from our guests and volunteers – fantastic songs, warm, happy and friendly, what a joyful café. Lunch was fully booked with 36 diners enjoying a wonderful lunch, beautifully cooked and served by our fabulous team of volunteers. Preparations underway for our next Café and Lunch Club, Saturday May 23, when we have Mawson’s Folly entertaining us. We do hope to see as many of you again. Over Memory Cafe and Lunch Club – March 28th 2026
Please do join us at our next Memory Café, when we have ‘St. Ives Uke Troupe’ entertaining us. All are welcome to our free morning, teas, coffees and cake will be provided. Our Café is in the Over Day Centre, to start at 10:00am on Saturday, March 28. Following our Memory Café, our Saturday Lunch Club is serving Creamy Fish pie or Butter bean and sweet potato pie with mashed potatoes served and seasonal vegetables.
