The speaker will be Angela Potter talking about &#8220;Gardens I Have Visited&#8221;. We will have our usual Raffle and the Flower of the Month Competition. Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at the beginning of the meeting. Visitors are welcome for a \u00a33 fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our speaker for the April meeting is Fiona Rose giving a talk entitled &#8220;In the Garden with William Morris: Flora as Art&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0 More famous for his work inside the home, William Morris (1834-1896) made a significant impact on the evolution of the English garden. He considered the garden inseparable from the house, rejecting Victorian formality and instead drawing inspiration from medieval gardens.\u00a0 This lecture examines his gardening principles drawing from Morris\u2019s lectures, letters, poetry, and prose. It also explores his own gardens that served as an inspiration behind his flower-based designs: Red House, Kelmscott Manor, Kelmscott House and the garden at his factory Merton Abbey Works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are a friendly group of gardeners who meet on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;Wednesday of the month in the Main Hall at Over Community Centre from 7.15pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;Annual membership costs \u00a315 and runs from 1st April 2025. Your membership card entitles you to 10% discount at Oakington Garden Centre which is a great benefit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as a&nbsp;guest speaker and raffle, we also have plant and seed sales, quizzes, outings, and competitions, a Summer Garden Party and Christmas Social.
