My congratulations go to Yasmin Deter and Luis Navarro who are now Willingham and Over\u2019s councillors, and I look forward to working with them. Every County Council seat in South Cambridgeshire district is now held by a Liberal Democrat. My thanks go to retiring councillors Firouz Thompson and Neil Gough who did a huge amount for our villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Zero Carbon Communities Grant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SCDC\u2019s popular Zero Carbon Communities Grant opened for applications on Monday 5<sup>th<\/sup> May and will close on Tuesday 1<sup>st<\/sup> July 2025. Parish councils and voluntary\/community organisations are invited to apply for grants of between \u00a32,000 and \u00a315,000 for projects that reduce carbon emissions (e.g. from a community building) or foster greater community engagement on climate issues and encourage sustainable behaviour change. An online workshop is to be held on Wednesday 21<sup>st<\/sup> May 2025, 5pm &#8211; 6:30pm. Email <a href=\"mailto:zcc@scambs.gov.uk\">zcc@scambs.gov.uk<\/a> for more information or to sign up for the workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Allotment Improvement Grant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a project that is close to my heart, not just because I\u2019m a keen allotment-holder but because I instigated it when I was the Lead Cabinet Member for Communities. This grant funding can provide up to \u00a310,000 in funding to support projects that enhance the productivity, sustainability, and social value of allotment spaces. The key principles are introducing or improving water access, pest control measures (such as rabbit fencing) and introducing or upgrading facilities, such as toilets, to make the allotment environment more inclusive and suitable for a wider range of people. Applications for this grant opened on Monday 5 May and close in late August 2025 and parish councils and allotment societies are invited to apply.
