He collects Penny Red stamps on envelopes and once purchased a bundle of ten or eleven letters from a Cambridge stamp dealer, primarily because of the interesting stamps on the envelopes, paying little attention to the contents at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, Graham discovered that the letters had been written by a young girl called Maggie to her father during the Victorian era. The correspondence follows Maggie\u2019s holidays with relatives from the age of eight until she was fourteen. In her letters, Maggie recorded the everyday events of her life and decorated them with detailed drawings and small keepsakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following Graham\u2019s talk, we moved on to AGM business. The committee for the coming year was elected and we were delighted to welcome Cythia Bidwell onto the committee. We also said a fond farewell to Jenny Moyes and Jan Whipp, who have both retired from their committee roles. We thank them for their dedication and hard work over many years; their contribution has been greatly appreciated and they will be missed at future committee meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denise Searle kindly agreed to continue in her role as President for a further year and was resoundingly re-elected.
