An update from Fen Drayton Lakes
This September, on two dates only, we are bringing canoeing back to Fen Drayton Lakes. You will be led on an exploratory journey around islands and reed to experience the reserve from an angle rarely seen by visitors. Energy boost for hundreds of South Cambridgeshire Council homes More than 600 Council homes in South Cambridgeshire are set to benefit from major energy efficiency upgrades helping to cut tenants’ energy bills. The project is part of a wider investment programme of around £19 million which is being delivered by SCDC in partnership with Mears. Almost half of the funding is from the government under their national Warm Homes Plan with SCDC contributing £10 million from its Housing Revenue Account (which comes from Council house rents, not Council Tax). Swavesey and District History Society – June 2025 Meeting
Nearly 50 people attended to hear Richard Hewlings of Swavesey give a talk on Richard Bentley and Over Rectory. Bentley (1662 – 1742), was born in Oulton near Leeds. He was a brilliant classical scholar (Greek and Roman) and theologian and became Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. His father was a yeoman farmer but his mother had some education and was able to give him his first lessons. After attending grammar school in Wakefield, Bentley entered St John’s College, Cambridge in 1676 where he received the degrees of BA and MA. RSPB Visit: 27 June 2025
Join a guided walk around Ouse Fen RSPB nature reserve, hosted by Over Baptist Church. 27 June 18:30 – meet in the car park, Fen End On commencement of the walk, we will make our way to the viewpoint overlooking cell 2. We will then retrace our steps back onto the permissive path and walk north between cells 1 and 2 to the gate onto long drove. We will walk west down long drove, south down cuckoo drove back to the cars. Walk should be up to 2hrs duration. Birds in this habitat include Marsh Harriers, Bitterns, Bearded reedlings, Marsh and Sedge warblers, Skylarks, Meadow Pipits and many more.…

Over Gardening Club – July Meeting & Party
Over Gardening Club will be holding a Summer Garden Party on 16th July at 6pm. Please email overgardeningclub@gmail.com for further information. We are a friendly group of gardeners and plant lovers who have regular meetings with a speaker, a raffle and occasional plant sales. Meetings are monthly, from September to May, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Over Community Centre and we usually have a guest speaker talking on a various aspects of gardening. Membership runs annually from 1 April to 31 March and is currently £15.00 per year. Visitors to meetings are welcome but we do ask for a guest fee of £3.00 per visit. On…

New Skate Park Opening
Young people in and around Over, Cambridgeshire are celebrating the opening of the significantly improved skate park thanks to a £100,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation. The Over Skate Park, located at the Over Community & Conference Centre, will be officially up and running following its launch at the Over Community Fun Day on 14 June 2025. Cllr Grange of Over Parish Council believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area and is particularly grateful to OSKA (Over Skate Park Association) for all their support with driving the project forward.
