Over Gardening Club News

We began our autumn programme of events on Wed 18th September with an informative talk on spring bulbs. Our speaker, George Lockwood, gave us each a list of those he recommended, with useful growing tips.

It was a very busy evening as we had several other things going on…

We held the judging of our annual growing competition – a begonia this year.

In spring we had handed out a free, tiny, begonia tuber to each member. Many had failed to thrive, but we had 11 begonia plants brought in for judging ranging in size. The results were:

1st – Jan Hook,   2nd – Richard Cox,    Joint 3rd – Gina Cook and Pat Morris.

We also had our usual Flower of the Month Competition. Our speaker chose:

1st – Brenda Burton (Rose),   2nd – Margaret Dibb (Catanache Cupid’s Dart and  3rd – Pam Allars (Dianthus).

As well as all of this, we had some pretty plants to sell to members and of course our usual raffle!

On Wed 16th October at 7.30pm in the Main Hall of OCC we have our next club evening. Tim Henshaw is going to tell us about the history of NIAB.

I understand this is a very important, locally based, institution for the future developments in agriculture and it will be interesting to find out more.

At this meeting we are asking club members to bring in a few plants to sell on, plus we have our usual Flower of the Month competition and our raffle!

Also, if you have collected any seeds this year and have some to share please do bring them in. We also collect in unwanted packets of seeds, from magazines etc. The seed swap is free.

A copy of our annual programme of events is on display in the foyer of OCC.

Visitors are always welcome for a fee of £3 per visit.
