Swavesey and District History Society
December 2024 meeting. Around 30 members attended the AGM. After the formal AGM proceedings three Swavesey residents gave short presentations, each relating to the late John Shepperson, History Society’s president, who died aged 93, on 27 September 2024. Selwyn Richardson reported that John was born on 22 July 1931 in the farmhouse at Boxworth End Farm. He was the youngest of four children, and with the three others being girls his parents were absolutely delighted and enormously relieved to have a boy at last. In February 1960 he married Ann Woodward. Ann, John’s wife, died 6 years ago, in early 2019. John spent just about his whole working life as…

12th November 2024 A full Parish Council meeting for Over Parish Council was held on 12th November 2024 at 19.00pm in the Seminar Room at Over Community Centre. Are you a creative cook, baker, gardener, artist, crafter, embroiderer, carpenter, photographer, ….etc? If you have ideas to share and inspire others in the village with , we’d love to hear from you. South Cambs District Councillor (SCDC) Bill Handley’s Report to Over Village News
December 2024 SCDC contacts hundreds of South Cambs residents who could be claiming Pension Credit As mentioned in last month’s report, recent government changes have restricted access to the Winter Fuel Payment with only pensioners who receive a means-tested benefit, such as Pension Credit, now able to receive it. It is estimated that as many as 880,000 eligible households in the UK are currently not claiming the benefit. As part of its continued cost-of-living support for residents, SCDC is using innovative software to better target its support and advice to residents, using data that they have already provided. Swavesey Camera Club
Our club restarts after the Xmas break on Thursday 9th January 2025 7pm – 9pm. We are always keen to encourage new members to join and pride ourselves on being a very friendly, welcoming club with activities to suit all abilities. We will have some great guest speakers at some of our meetings covering a variety of subjects eg. Travel, wildlife, architecture, landscape, and creative photography. We also have internal and external competitions. There will also be members nights covering various topics – so something for everyone! Over WI Introduction to Line Dancing
At our last meeting we welcomed back Naomi Wallen who cam to give us an Introduction to Line Dancing. Naomi runs a Dance school called DANCE MATTERS. Her school is for people of all ages and abilities giving them the opportunity to experience the joy of dancing in a relaxed and supportive environment. The age range of her pupils is from 2 to 80. The evening turned out to be a fun and very enjoyable one. with many members getting on their feet and learning some basic steps to perform two dances. Sing for Joy Christmas Concert
Come along for some festive cheer on Thursday 12 December at 7.30pm in All Saints Church, Longstanton. Sing for Joy! is a community choir from Over and Longstanton and we’ve been working hard on carols, Christmas songs and much more, so do join us for a free concert and enjoy a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie!
