Councillor Lentill’s Report on SCDC meeting of 27 February 2024
On 27 February South Cambs met to discuss the budget. The debt ceiling, taxes, and council house rents went up. All those promised savings from the Four-Day Week Trial haven’t amounted to much. You’ll be glad to know that remuneration for us councillors is also going up (backdated), despite a verbosely elegant speech from your not-especially humble correspondent arguing that this might tend to annoy residents. The 44-year-old needs to beat the previous-best time of three hours and 56 minutes and is raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH). She previously ran for EACH at the 2019 London Marathon – in the process setting a record for the fastest runner dressed as a fairytale character. “I must be mad but love a fun,…

The little-known story of how the priceless exhibits of Britain’s museums, gallery and library collections were protected and preserved. These included Old Masters, the Magna Carta, the Crown jewels, the Parthenon Marbles, rare books, numerous marble statues and hundreds of tons of national archives from the Public Records Office. Winston Churchill ordered that all would be stored at home because the risk of sending to Canada, for example, was too great.
