Over Memory Cafe and Lunch Club – November meeting
Another terrific morning at Over’s Memory Café, with thanks to all our volunteers and guests in making time to join us. Peter & Fiona (Jukebox Legends) were brilliant, entertaining us with great songs and some fine line dancing. We had 22 guests, with five joining us for the first time. This is great news as it helps sustain the Café and Lunch Club and means we have plenty of cake. Lunch was another triumph, thanks to Helen, Lisa, Melanie, Gina, Sheila and Orina for their hard work cooking and serving, 23 diners enjoyed lunch and the thrill of a lucky chair.Whilst our next Lunch is now January 24, we will be…

Swavesey & District History Society – November Meeting
About 40 attended a talk by Mike Muncaster from Kimbolton entitled “An Elizabethan Grammar School”. During the reign of Elizabeth I it was recognised that an educated elite was necessary as servants of the Queen to govern the administration of the country, similar to today’s civil service. Grammar schools had started during the reign of King Edward VI then in Elizabeth’s reign the state “language” was confirmed as protestant England and the deliberate aim of grammar schools was to develop Protestantism. Many philanthropists contributed including Richard Robins of Godmanchester who in 1558 willed that enough of his lands as necessary were to be sold to raise £20 per annum with…

Advent Activities Morning – St Mary’s Church
St Mary’s Church, Over, are running and Advent Activity morning on Saturday 29 November from 10.15 – 12 noon for children between 4 and 11 years. It will start in the church then move quickly over to the hall where there will be lots of Advent and Christmas themed crafts and activities to have fun with. Parents are invited to stay and enjoy some seasonal refreshments too! There is no charge for the morning, but we do require you to book a place in advance as numbers are limited. Postal voters – a reminder May I remind people that if they have had a postal vote in the past and wish to continue to have one, they will have to reregister for future elections starting with the local authority elections next May. This can be done now via the SCDC website or by phoning for an application form on 01954 713000. It is a simple process, so please don’t miss out.
