Swavesey & District History Society – October 2025 Meeting
October meeting. About 40 people (members and guests) heard John Vigar, a former architectural historian from Kings Lynn, present “Bedrooms, Banquets and Balls”, one of his numerous talks. This talk dwelt on the development of the English Country House and the people living in them. He started with the medieval hall-house then followed architectural tastes and fashions right up to the mid twentieth century. Over W.I.
At the beginning of October, we enjoyed a delightful river cruise with the Windsor and Maidenhead Boat Company aboard The Georgian — a 30-metre river cruiser complete with an upper viewing deck and a charming restaurant below deck. We were fortunate to have calm, mild weather, allowing us to spend much of the trip on the viewing deck. From there, we spotted kingfishers, cormorants, herons, red kites, and admired the stunning riverside homes along…

Cambridgeshire County Council Monthly Report October 2025
Cllr Luis Navarro Dear Over residents, I wanted to share a few important updates and reflections from recent weeks. You may have noticed the new safety works underway along the Guided Busway, including a reduction in speed limits and the installation of fencing along key sections. These changes have been mandated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to ensure the safety of all users and nearby residents. I encourage residents to plan ahead and take measures to accommodate a potentially slower service during this period. I’m also delighted to welcome The Revd Edward (Ed) Green as the new vicar at St Mary’s Church. Ed brings a wealth of experience…
