Have your say on police funding for 2024/25
Police and Crime Commissioner, Darryl Preston, has launched a short, online survey to ask you for your views on police funding for the coming year. Around half (54%) of Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s funding comes from government with the remainder (46%) from the policing part of your council tax. The Commissioner is keen to understand your views and has said that if the government announces a final police settlement that is better than anticipated, he’ll review what that means locally to help minimise any additional financial burden on residents. The survey is available online and will be open until 17:00 on 2nd January 2024. Your responses will help inform his final decision…

Update from Over WI
Our speaker last month was David Duker, author of “One Of Our Own”, a book about a St Neots’ man and Battle of Britain pilot Squadron Leader Victor Ekins, MBE, DFC. As a child, David’s Grandad told him stories of people he had met and places he had been during the Second World War. Unsurprisingly, David developed a lifelong interest in the Battle of Britain and the WWII generation. Around 10 years ago David set out on a quest to meet and interview some of the people who lived and served through the war years. During his research, a chance discovery of an online document mentioning Victor Ekins and St…

Over Memory Cafe – November’s Cafe
Some say it’s never too soon for Christmas, and at November’s Over Memory Cafe, Swavesey Community Choir provided a morning of much loved carols, a few new songs and a beautiful piece that enthralled us all. We are so grateful for the choir joining us, for Jane Dobinson who led some gentle exercise and Mr. Marigold reading poetry. Our guests left suitably refreshed and invigorated, both mind and body. Again a team of volunteers ensured our guests were suitably refreshed, we massively appreciate their time and enthusiasm. Most of all we are so pleased that our guests find the morning enjoyable and fun . See you all at our Christmas…

Report from Cambridgeshire County Councillor Firouz Thompson for Over News November 2023
As winter nears, drive cautiously near schools during school run and coming home from after-school clubs as younger kids may not be road-savvy. Mind the [budget] gap Cambridgeshire County Council’s estimated budget gap for 2024/25 has increased from a predicted £16M to more than £23M—largely due to increases in demand for services and inflationary pressure. Without action being taken this gap will grow and is predicted to be more than £20M in the following year, and a further £19M and more the year after that. Cambridgeshire is not alone.…
