South Cambs District Councillor (SCDC) Bill Handley’s Report to Over Village News – November 2023
Dear residents, Here is my summary of SCDC matters, at the time of writing in early November 2023. It is an abridged version of my report to Over Parish Council. Community Hubs Last winter, 25 Warm Hubs were in operation across South Cambridgeshire in collaboration with Cambridgeshire ACRE. The benefits of these Hubs quickly became clear; not only did they allow a warm space for individuals to go to keep warm but also to socialise with a hot drink and a snack. In the spring of this year, it was decided to continue the Hubs but with some changes to the format in the light of experience. These new facilities…

St Mary’s Church, Over warmly invites you to join us on Saturday 23rd December at 4.00pm for a Christingle service. This is a short service suitable for all ages where you can make a Christingle candle (a decorated orange). You can just turn up on the day but to help us plan resources it would be great if you can let us know you are coming by emailing admin@5folds.org.uk and telling us the size of your party and the number of Under 16’s. There will be a…

Update on Over Skate Park
Little update from OSKA: OSKA reached the stage a few months ago, where following some fundraising, engagement and the production of a Design Brief, we were ready to seek tenders from interested companies to work on final designs and eventually construction of a new wheeled sports park. As the land is owned by the Parish Council (PC) we needed the PC to get involved in this decision and so, after approaching them, it was agreed we would form a Working Party that consists of 3 OSKA members and 2 PC members. Together we have drawn up tender documents and have now received tenders from companies interested in working with us…

Over Memory Cafe – October meeting
Terrific Café again on Saturday, a great crowd, marvellous cake and a fantastic morning of entertainment provided by Stuart Green – the songs selected giving ample opportunity for all to join in, a massive thank you. A few new attending that was good to see, again, people leaving with big smiles. Stuart Green was our entertainer having kicked off our first Cafe in July. Stuart led the morning’s singing with a mix of new and old songs, a couple for Halloween a bit or air guitar and just great fun. We also held a short memory quiz in the intermission then Mr.Marigold (our resident poet) made a guest star appearance…
