Over Memory Cafe and Lunch Club – November meeting
Another terrific morning at Over’s Memory Café, with thanks to all our volunteers and guests in making time to join us. Peter & Fiona (Jukebox Legends) were brilliant, entertaining us with great songs and some fine line dancing. We had 22 guests, with five joining us for the first time. This is great news as it helps sustain the Café and Lunch Club and means we have plenty of cake. Lunch was another triumph, thanks to Helen, Lisa, Melanie, Gina, Sheila and Orina for their hard work cooking and serving, 23 diners enjoyed lunch and the thrill of a lucky chair.Whilst our next Lunch is now January 24, we will be…

Swavesey & District History Society – November Meeting
About 40 attended a talk by Mike Muncaster from Kimbolton entitled “An Elizabethan Grammar School”. During the reign of Elizabeth I it was recognised that an educated elite was necessary as servants of the Queen to govern the administration of the country, similar to today’s civil service. Over W.I. November Meeting
Stewart McGeogh visited us to speak about the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC). Stewart, a postman by profession, volunteers his time to deliver talks and lead tours that highlight the thousands of cemeteries and memorials around the world commemorating the men and women who died during the First and Second World Wars. He explained the origins of the CWGC, founded in 1917 to ensure that every fallen service member would be remembered with dignity—correcting the injustices of earlier centuries when the dead were rarely identified and their graves often went unmarked. Stewart described the extraordinary care given to CWGC sites, which range from tiny burial grounds on…
