Over Memory Cafe and Lunch Club – March Report
We welcomed Stuart Green back to our Memory Café for our March Cafe, a morning of great songs and entertainment. Poetry and news provided a break when more fabulous cakes were enjoyed. A big thank you to our volunteers and guests all of whom make the morning so much fun. After our Café we provided lunch to 21 guests at our Lunch Club, beautifully prepared in our kitchen with amazing feedback as to the quality of the beef and a delicious dessert. March 2025 Meeting At least 40 people (members plus new visitors) attended to hear Ian Langworthy from St Ives talk on “Mud, blood and bandages”, a serious but sometimes gory description of 1st World War medical issues. Movement of wounded soldiers from the front, including the use of nurses and doctors on site was already in place before WW1. After giving first aid in the trench the task was to move the injured man by stretcher with regimental band members and conscientious objectors as stretcher bearers. Let’s decorate the village for April!
The Spring Equinox has arrived, bringing warmer and sunnier days and we look forward to the lovely month of April. Following Mothering Sunday and Eid, April this year will include Easter, Passover and various Hindu festivals, as well as the new life of Spring in our flora and fauna. There are so many easy ways to decorate in celebration of any of these things, and it would be lovely to see lots of decorations around our village. Whether home-made or bought, they’ll be sure to raise a smile. We could put a wreath on the front door, pictures and decorations in windows, kebab sticks with decorations in pot plants, eggs…

Over W.I. March Update
At our March AGM, Chris Atkin was the guest speaker, sharing insights from his book Justas Well, It’s Not About the Bike, a playful nod to Lance Armstrong’s iconic memoir It’s NotAbout the Bike. In his book, Chris recounts his adventure of buying the cheapest bike he could find andembarking on a 1,300 km journey from Valencia to Gibraltar. Along the way, he cycledthrough some of Spain’s most picturesque towns, meeting a series of colourful characters,including a man who lived in a cave and an Airbnb host who confessed to strangling theprevious guest. Over Day Centre Fundraising Events 2025
5 Pub Challenge, Sunday 11th May: 10am start from Over Day Centre. See previous post for details. Bike Rides, Sunday 29th June; staggered start times forthe three rides organised : 8.30am, 9.30am and 10.50am; start at Over Community Centre, this year choice of three rides 100k, 50k and 13k ridesfor both club / serious and family / casual riders with after-rides socialfor all rides at the Community Centre, with live music, BBQ, bar and medals for children.
