Over W.I.: A Creative Journey – furnishings and upholstery
Our speaker in February was Dimitra Frangos – a maker, upcycler and upholsterer – best known for her creative approach to furniture restoration, repurposing household objects and sustainable making. Rather than buying new, Dimitra specialises in giving old or discarded pieces a new life through careful upholstery, thoughtful design and reuse of materials — blending traditional craft with modern sustainability values. Her journey began with a fascination for fabric that she developed in her teens — sewing curtains, reviving old chairs and collecting hundreds of fabric off-cuts that most people would discard. Dimitra brought along examples of her restoration projects, including a woven cane chair that had been rewoven using…

Simple Valentine Sweet Treats
Obviously, there are many elaborate and delicious meals and cakes one can make to treat a special person, but there are also simple ways to just make everyday food a little bit special this weekend. Heart Shapes Either free-hand or using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut a heart shaped strawberry jam sandwich, slice of toast, scone dough etc. One trick (where there’s no waste) is to cut a heart out of a slice of toast – pop the outer into a frying pan and fry an egg in the aperture, while spreading butter and jam on the cutout. Chocolate While a chocolate fondue is fun with delicious fruit, a simpler…

South Cambs District Council (SCDC) Bill Handley’s Report to Over Residents – February 2026
There is quite a bit to report this month on planning and economic development in the Greater Cambridge area and all that goes with it. It is clear that the government is determined to press ahead with an agenda for significant growth and to tackle, head-on, the obstacles to it such as water shortages and transportation issues. They have set up the Cambridge Growth Company (CGC) to facilitate the growth agenda and I have commented below on a meeting held by SCDC’s Scrutiny Committee with the senior staff of CGC. SCDC Breaks Record for New Council Houses SCDC has just confirmed that the council has completed 113 new Council homes…

Over Gardening Club’s February meeting will be held in the main hall at Over Community Centre at 7.30pm.
